Rise and shine, it's Thursday morning!

At the time of this writing, Wayne County was given a tornado watch, so I hope many of you were safe last night as I am not yet aware of any tornadoes that had touched down.

In other news, I promised in yesterday's newsletter that I would have a story with a gubernatorial candidate, and I do in today's top story!

🎶 Song of the day! 🎶

Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch visits Richmond before May primary

The Indiana gubernatorial primary is just under three weeks away, and candidates are making their final trips around the state before Hoosiers head to the polls.

Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch, one of the frontrunners to be on the Republican ticket come November, stopped by Richmond on Tax Day this past Monday to attend a luncheon at The Olde Richmond Inn.

There, she met with community leaders and residents to hear the most pressing issues that Wayne County voters have on their minds.

For more on Crouch's visit, read here.

📰 Three questions with a community leader 📰

For this week's edition, I asked I spoke to President and CEO of the Wayne County Area Chamber of Commerce, Melissa Vance, to learn more about her role at the Chamber.

Q: How did you end up in your current role?

A: "I had been in different sectors during my career. I was in banking for a while when I lived in Texas and then in healthcare for several years and then had an opportunity to come here and be more involved in the community at a greater level. I was excited about that, and when the previous CEO resigned, I was able to move into the position I'm in now."

Q: What does a typical day look like for you?

A: "There is no typical day at the chamber. They're all different. It depends on the time of year to be honest. It could be representing the businesses in community meetings or it could be promoting the community in a positive way, supporting 'Buy Local' initiatives where we encourage shopping small and supporting our neighbors along the way. We do a lot of that as well as celebrating businesses that are doing things successfully. Or, it could be with education, whether it's a career fair or our attendance program."

Q: What is your favorite part about working at the Chamber?

A: "I love our community and being able to support a community that grows and thrives and still has that small town feel, that's the best."
