A morning filled with sometimes heavy rain, on top of a racing surface already wet from a full week’s worth of rain, was more than the Rice Lake Speedway could handle Saturday night, and the track owners were forced to cancel racing action. It was to have been Red Cedar Speedway night at the track and that event will be rescheduled. The Best Appearing Car awards, also scheduled to be handed out, will take place this Saturday.
The first special event of the racing season is Saturday night with the presenting of the first annual Spring Modified Spectacular brought to the speedway by emr and D. Jenkins Electric. The Modifieds will be the featured division at the track and will be racing a 30-lap main event with $1,200 going to the winner and all starters guaranteed at least a $100 to take the green flag. An impressive field of Modified drivers is expected from several states for one of the first extra distance WISSOTA Modified races of the year. The drivers will not have to pay any kind of draw or entry fee and regular pit admission prices will be in effect.
The fans will benefit as the general admission ticket price will not be elevated for this event. Along with the Modifieds, all four other WISSOTA classes that routinely race at the track — the Super Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Street Stocks and Pure Stocks — will all be racing a full program.
The pit gates will open at 3 p.m. and the spectator gates at 4 p.m. The cut off for racers is 5:30 p.m. and the first green flag will fly at 6 p.m.
