    Police Logs: Caller hears gun fire, explosion

    The police dispatch center receives several hundred calls weekly. The small sampling below shows their diversity.

    Monday, April 229:57 a.m. Officer says he was flagged down by a male subject stating he nicked two of his fingers with a table saw. He still has both fingers. Officer will be driving the individual to MMC ER. Augusta St., Rice Lake.

    2:40 p.m. Caller says female subject stole her cactus plant and will not give it back. 3:31 p.m. Cactus plant brought back and no further action is needed at this time. 13th St., Chetek.

    9:16 p.m. Advised of a woman pushing a stroller, appears to be homeless. He wants someone to check on her in case she does have a baby. 9:34 p.m. No locate. Main & Messenger streets, Rice Lake.

    Tuesday, April 237:30 a.m. RP says an account online is threatening to release photos he sent them. He sent the account $500 last night to prevent the release of the photos. He was advised to block the account and attempt to stop the pending transaction. 8:57 a.m. Reporting party was advised of the scam and of what to do. 8th Ave., Chetek.

    10:50 a.m. RP says she received a notification from the DMV that she was a victim of fraud. A new driver’s license was issued in her name to a subject in Florida. 2½ Ave., Dallas.

    11:51 a.m. Caller says there are two trucks either racing or having a road rage incident on Highway 53 southbound from Highway 48. Caller was willing to make a statement if necessary. 12:09 p.m. No locate. MM 143, Rice Lake.

    Wednesday, April 2410:37 a.m. Caller says she had new neighbors move in next door and she has been having a problem with their dog running loose and coming onto her property. Caller advised the dog gets inside her fence and has been scratching on her door. Linden Ave., Rice Lake.

    Thursday, April 258:56 a.m. 911 caller is upset about her landline not working. She advised she doesn’t know how to operate her cell phone and is very frustrated. She was advised a deputy would stop out and speak with her. 9:54 a.m. Deputy says caller is very frustrated with her daughter for changing the landline to a cell phone. He is going to contact phone company and see if they can send a tech out to fix the problem. 24th Ave., Cumberland.

    10:25 a.m. Caller says there is a subject walking south on Highway 53. She advised the subject is carrying a duffel bag on his shoulder and has some type of case in his hand. Caller is concerned about his safety. 10:39 a.m. Officer out with the subject at MM 140. 10:41 a.m. The subject is trying to get to Eau Claire. 10:50 a.m. Officer advised he will be meeting chaplain in Cameron who will then assist the subject. 11:01 a.m. Will be transporting subject to Bloomer. Rice Lake.

    4:11 p.m. Officer received a call of an injured bear on Highway 53 near MM 135. 4:29 p.m. The bear is on the other side of the fence. Not known if dead or injured. Officer advised he will try to get a closer look. 4:48 p.m. Bear is already deceased. Cameron.

    7:27 p.m. Caller says that someone broke into his car last night or today. He is missing two socket sets. He will be waiting outside by the vehicle. 7:48 p.m. Caller is requesting more patrol in his area. Lakeshore Dr., Rice Lake.

    8:17 p.m. 911 caller is requesting the fire department respond for his brush fire, it is more than he can put out by himself. Poplar Ave., Cameron.

    9:52 p.m. Caller at laundromat says that there is a male subject who appears to be trying to find a place to sleep in the laundromat. 10:19 p.m. Subject is going to try to walk to the Bloomer area on Highway SS. Main St., Rice Lake.

    Friday, April 267:16 a.m. RP says there is a dead cougar in the roadway. 7:58 a.m. It was a bobcat. Pushed it off to the side. 1st St., Comstock.

    10:57 a.m. Caller says she received mail from the IRS stating she did not claim all of her income and listed two other places of employment. Caller then called one of the locations in Missouri that confirmed her information being used there and a payment of about $26,000. She is requesting to speak to Rice Lake Police Department for next steps. Humbird St., Rice Lake.

    12:10 p.m. Anonymous caller would like a welfare check on some animals. Caller stated there is a full grown cow and calf pair and a goat that are all inside a smaller dog kennel for the last month. Caller stated the animals have no room to move and they are not sure if they are being fed or watered either. 1:02 p.m. Officer advised it is not ideal conditions but the animals are healthy. 18¼ Ave., Rice Lake.

    4:04 p.m. Minor two vehicle crash. Seventeen-year-old female with minor head injury. One vehicle in the median. 4:06 p.m. Second 911 caller stated two-vehicle accident with one injury but would not answer whether they were involved or not. 4:09 p.m. Tow company will be en route with two flatbeds.4:18 p.m. Fire requesting MMC for an additional patient with head pain. South Access Rd. & Wisconsin Ave., Rice Lake.

    4:48 p.m. RP says a customer whispered in an employee’s ear that he wanted to kill him and stole a cup of coffee. Male left on a bike. 5:43 p.m. Officer advised he spoke with male subject who admitted to being in gas station but denied saying anything. He was advised he would be getting several citations. LaSalle Ave., Barron.

    Saturday, April 2712:59 p.m. Anonymous caller says that he is hearing fully automatic gun fire. He requested an officer check the area as he feels unsafe hearing rapid gunfire. 1:41 p.m. Officer sat in the area, did not hear anything out of the ordinary. No reason to make contact with them. 2:07 p.m. RP is upset that the subjects have now “set a bomb off” and it shook his house. 2:09 p.m. Officer will follow up with the property owner. Most likely shooting tannerite. 3:59 p.m. Officer advised that the RP called and reported that the gun shots are continuing and the gunshots are now disturbing the cows. 4:26 p.m. Officer advised he spoke to the landowner and he advised he would give it a rest for the evening. They are having a bachelor party. 4:55 p.m. Officer advised he made contact with the complainant and advised him of the situation. Hopefully it is sort of calm for the rest of the night. He had a host of other traffic complaints that he has previously filed. Officer will give it extra patrol during his shift. 22½ St., Chetek.

    Sunday, April 28

    5:06 a.m. Ford automated crash report. Could hear someone request an ambulance and someone say that they lost control. Third party caller advised that they saw a vehicle going nearly 100 mph toward her in her lane. The vehicle swerved last minute and went in the ditch. She saw one male occupant get out of the vehicle and start walking around. Vehicle is near a pole but she is not sure if it hit the pole. 5:14 a.m. Deputies advised that the vehicle did hit a pole. Only one occupant. Injuries to the face. Is out and walking around. 5:17 a.m. Power pole is snapped in half. 5:26 a.m. Power pole was hit approximately 10 feet off the ground. Line is still up. Significant pieces missing from the pole. 5:28 a.m. Vehicle is approximately 10 yards down the embankment and approximately 20 yards into the woods. 5:28 a.m. Tire marks start at 2323 Highway SS and continue to the crash site. Rice Lake.
