Canes softball plays three games at Rhinelander

The Hayward Hurricanes girls softball team opened their season with three games in the Danny Mac Invitational at the Hodag Dome in Rhinelander March 21-22.

The Canes defeated Kingsford, Michigan 19-3; lost to New London 13-0; and lost to Rice Lake 11-4.

Alli Coddington pitched the four-inning win over Kingsford, giving up two hits and two walks while striking out one.

Madi Bergschneider had three hits and scored three runs, Nikki Miller had a solo home run and a single, Greta Woelber had four hits including a double, Brooke Laier had two doubles and Kaydee Campbell had one hit.

Four Canes had one hit apiece in the game against New London: Colby Sprenger, Campbell (double), Laier and Miller.

Kaydee Campbell pitched in Hayward’s game against Rice Lake, giving up 13 hits, walking one and striking out one.

Madi Bergschneider had two hits, Colby Sprenger and Brooke Laier each had two hits including a double, while Leah Swan, Miller, Campbell, Coddington and Sadie Chipman had one hit apiece.

The Hurricanes’ next scheduled games are at home against Medford on April 4 and a triangular with Rice Lake and Altoona on April 6.
