Oops… one more thing about lunching in Lewes
My big plan for this week’s column was to crow (as humbly as possible, of course) that you are reading my 700th publication here in Cape Gazette. Thirteen-and-a-half years ago, I vowed to strive for perfection in print, but alas, it was not to be. The most recent example is last week’s column. It was one of my regular roundups featuring selected places in Lewes that dish up a good lunch. I managed to write about 26 places (count ‘em! 26!), but if it ain’t one darn thing it’s another: My apologies go out to Pig & Publican owners Doug and Lisa Frampton; I mistakenly neglected their cozy restaurant in the Beacon Motel on Savannah Road, and, yes indeedy, they do serve lunch. Mea culpa.

In a perfect world, NJ seagull killer would get a medal
Look, this isn’t going to make me any friends, OK? I get that. But in a perfect world there would be some unalienable rights. Like the right to set foot on sand without being charged a beach fee. The right to not have someone set up five feet from you when the beach is wide open.

New films to open at Cinema Art Theater July 26
Beginning Friday, July 26, the Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater will present “Kinds of Kindness” and ‘Widow Clicquot.”. An intriguing triptych fable that consists of three distinct but loosely connected stories, “Kinds of Kindness” follows a man without choice who tries to take control of his own life; a policeman who is alarmed that his wife who was missing-at-sea has returned and seems a different person; and a woman determined to find a specific someone with a special ability, who is destined to become a prodigious spiritual leader.
‘Room Enough’ Rehoboth history author to appear Aug. 2
Browseabout Books will host Roger Truitt, author of “Room Enough,” for a signing event from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 2, at 133 Rehoboth Ave., Rehoboth Beach. Truitt’s historical novel tells the story of the founding of Rehoboth as a seaside camp meeting revival venue in 1873. It reveals how the city was initially developed by the Rev. Robert Todd and then changed dramatically over the next eight years as the railroad was extended from Lewes and the “sinners” prevailed over the “saints.”
Historic Rehoboth Boardwalk barons is Aug. 1 lecture topic
Local historian Paul Lovett’s diorama, the Golden Age of Rehoboth Beach, is on view through Labor Day at the Rehoboth Beach Museum. It is a miniature model of the city circa 1910, when the railroad still ran down Rehoboth Avenue. A locomotive complete with smoke and whistle chugs down the main thoroughfare of the replica, as the real trains did until upgrades to Delaware roadways led automobiles to eclipse them as the preferred way to get to the beach.
