Crook County OHSET heads to state

The Crook County High School Equestrian Team wrapped up its regular season on a high note, placing first in the medium team category for Central District in mid-April.

The squad also qualified several of the members for the upcoming state finals competition. The Oregon High School Equestrian Teams State Championship will be held Thursday through Saturday, May 9-12 at the Deschutes County Fair and Expo Center in Redmond.

The Crook County High School Equestrian team for 2024 consists of Tavia Quinn, Hayden Atkins, Corley Holliday, Emma Brandau, Grace Budre, Tristan Sutherlin, April McGill, Adriean Hayes and Serenity Walker.

“Each of these athletes went above and beyond, working hard this season through snow, ice, rain and shine to set the bar high for the upcoming state meet,” noted their advisor, Natalie Brandau.

Those qualifying for state in specific events include:

Jumping: Quinn; In-Hand Trail: Holliday; Saddle Seat: Budre; Daubing- Budre and Holliday (Sutherlin as third alternate): Figure 8- Holliday and Brandau; Poles: (Quinn as second alternate); Indy Flags- Holliday and Sutherlin, (Quinn third alternate); Sorting- Quinn and Budre (Sutherlin and Holliday second alternate); IHOR- Team A- Quinn, Budre, Holliday and Sutherlin, (Team B third alternate is Atkins, Hayes, Brandau, and Walker); Bi-wrangle- Quinn-Budre, Branda-Holliday; Drill-5+: Hayes, Brandau, Quinn, Sutherlin, Holliday and Atkins; Canadian Flags: Team A — Sutherlin, Brandau, Holliday and Quinn.
