Care, Collaboration and Community: Celebrating One Year of the Las Vegas Trail Neighborhood Health Center
One year ago, a bold partnership set out to transform health and wellness in Fort Worth's Las Vegas Trail neighborhood. Today, the results speak for themselves. Since opening its doors on Aug. 5 2025 to July 2026, the Neighborhood Health Center serving the Las Vegas Trail area has welcomed more than 18,000 patient visits between JPS Health Network and Cook Chidren’s. The center connected thousands more community members with behavioral health visits, nutritious food, workforce training and community resources. In an achievement that cannot be conveyed by numbers alone, the center has also become a gathering place for residents and partners alike.

Prehospital Whole Blood Pilot Program Comes to West TX
The Texas Legislature recently invested approximately $10 million into the Prehospital Whole Blood Pilot Program, and that program is now making its way to West Texas. This program allows Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to purchase blood for their units so they can transfuse whole blood in the field for severe bleeding from traumas, maternal hemorrhages, and other critical conditions — before arriving at the hospital. More than $600,000 of that money was designated for the Texas J Regional Advisory Council (Texas J RAC – West Texas) and now Medical Center Hospital, along with Rankin County EMS and J RAC are implanting this program locally.

For Right at Home’s 2026 Caregiver of the Year, home care is about building trust
Esther Ozue’s caregiving journey began in earnest at an early age. Because her grandmother provided care for her as a child, she decided to return the favor. “Caregiving is a passion I have from growing up as a child,” Ozue, a Dallas resident, told McKnight’s Home Care Daily Pulse. “My grandmother used to take good care of me and after some years, she fell ill and I took up that responsibility to take care of her because she was there for me because she loved me. Everybody around me knew that she had that special bond with me. When she passed on, I said, ‘OK, why don’t I take this up as a profession?’ That was what led me to go back to school to become a CNA. From there, I became a caregiver.”
