Roof leaks affect Northside Elementary students; repairs underway
Roof leaks at Northside Elementary disrupted classes for at least two dozen students over the past few weeks, prompting Palmyra Area School District officials to move instruction from several affected classrooms during initial repairs. Over the last two weeks more than 24 students have been directly impacted by a roof leak at Northside Elementary. The leaks have included a first grade classroom, downstairs STEM classroom, a Learning Support classroom that was directly above the STEM room. In a message Monday, Oct. 19, school officials stated the received the results of air quality testing, which confirmed that the areas are appropriate for normal use. But the overall cause of the leaks at the Northside Elementary School are still being addressed. The leaks have been identified as roof-related by the district’s maintenance department, according to communications media coordinator Casey Keshner. Palmyra crews along with a roofing contractor have been evaluating the affected areas and completing repairs as concerns have been identified. Keene Elementary celebrates 25 'Koalaty' years
Students and staff celebrated Keene Elementary School's 25th anniversary Thursday by burying a time capsule that will be dug up for the 50th anniversary. "When you bury this time capsule today, let's bury it with pride, with hope, and with the knowledge that we are part of something bigger than ourselves," Superintendent Deirdra Aikens told students during a brief ceremony before the capsule was buried in a garden outside the school. "We are stronger together because of this moment. We are connected for a lifetime." Each grade of students picked different items to include in the time capsule, including lists of their favorite toys and snacks and a list of all the fifth graders and what career they aspire to. Also included was a squishy toy – a reminder of one 2026's trendiest toys – a figurine of the school's koala mascot and a clown doll that the school's namesake used to give out as a special award. "The item you chose is a piece of you, and it will rest here, waiting for a future generation to discover it," Aikens told the students. "You have added something important to Keene's story, and this is a story that will continue
