The Illinois Department of Transportation, Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission, and the Missouri Department of Transportation have begun construction on the new Don Welge Memorial Bridge. The project is funded by Governor JB Pritzker's Rebuild Illinois capital program and represents a $307.1 million investment by Illinois and Missouri. The new bridge will replace the old Chester Bridge, improving safety and reliability for daily drivers.
