Northern Starz Center for the Performing Arts in Ramsey’s Musical Conservatory Program debuted the production of “Chicago Teen Edition” April 18, with performances continuing through April 25.

The students in the cast, grades 6-12, have been part of the Northern Starz inaugural Musical Theatre Conservatory Program. The program started in November and is an educational performing arts program composed of students from several different school districts.

“Theatre for Life” is more than just a motto for the Northern Starz Musical Theatre Conservatory Program, Northern Starz Executive Director Rachel Bohnsack said, believing that creative expression through the performing arts can have a lasting impact on students, whether they simply have a love for the arts, want to learn to better express themselves, or desire a career as a theater professional. The goal is to pass on a love of theater, music and dance in a supportive and nurturing environment. Northern Starz is committed to quality instruction that instills fundamental theatrical and life skills on which students can build and work toward their full potential as artists and community members. Students have received instruction and guidance from artists who are working professionally, bringing practical and current training “from the field” into their artistic space.

Northern Starz Center for the Performing Arts is a group of theater professionals who are passionate about teaching the performing arts to students of all ages. At the Northern Starz Musical Theatre Conservatory Program, it’s all about the students — from the faculty they have chosen to the curriculum that was developed, they have provided their students with a performing arts experience that will enrich the rest of their lives.

“We are looking forward to next year’s conservatory program, which will include both a musical theater and a theater program,” Bohnsack said.

At the Northern Starz, each artist is seen and heard, priding on providing individual attention to all pupils. No matter the level of experience, every student has been given the opportunity to actively participate, grow, succeed, and be recognized. Northern Starz recognizes that being a part of a team of performers provides young thespians with the opportunity to shine as individuals, as well as gain essential life skills that can only be developed through the arts.

Performances for “Chicago: Teen Edition” are Thursday, April 18, at 7 p.m.; Friday, April 19, at 7 p.m.; Saturday, April 20, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.; Sunday, April 21, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.; Monday, April 22, at 7 p.m.; Tuesday, April 23, at 7 p.m.; and Wednesday, April 24, at 7 p.m. The group will also perform at the Curtains Up Fundraiser on Thursday, April 25, at 7 p.m. — a ticket to the fundraiser is necessary to view the show.
