Rod Brind'Amour Needs To Be Top Sharks Target If He's On The Market

Carolina Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind'Amour could be a hot commodity this offseason, and the San Jose Sharks need to go after him.

Reports came out today that the Hurricanes rescinded their latest contract offer to extend Brind'Amour as head coach.

The head coach is in his sixth season behind the bench and has made the Hurricanes a perennial Stanley Cup contender each season. In 452 career regular-season games coached, Brind'Amour has a record of 278-130-44. He won the Jack Adams Award in the 2020-21 season.

A head coach whose players have the utmost respect for hasn't been on the market since, arguably, Mike Babcock during the 2015 offseason. That year, Babcock signed a massive $7 million per year contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

If Brind'Amour tests the coaching market, GM Mike Grier must immediately put him on top of his coaching search. Brind'Amour fits all the boxes that Grier wants for his San Jose Sharks. He brings competition, structure, and passion to a team that desperately lacked those qualities.

He also fits the professional experience Grier said he preferred in his next head coach.

The Hurricanes are confident they can keep their head coach and have continued to have discussions throughout their playoff run.

The Hurricanes are about to play the New York Rangers in the second round of the playoffs.
