Portland man loses half of his foot after salon pedicure, sues for $900K
A 40-year-old Portland man says he lost half of his foot after it became infected from unsterilized tools used during a pedicure he received at a local nail salon. Nathan Fields has filed a $913,000 lawsuit against Eden Salon & Spa, claiming that a nail technician “severely cut” his big toe during the March 2025 pedicure and that ultimately led to two amputations that carved away all of his toes and much of his foot.

Crows looking for grub leave Portland-area lawns in tatters
PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — Portland-area lawns have nothing to crow about these days. Crows are feasting on grubs, leaving turfs torn up. A grub is essentially a beetle. It’s an invasive species. It’s a tasty snack for crows and racoons and other scavengers, but it’s the crows that are doing the most damage to yards.

New photo book shows life on the streets of Portland
Three years ago, Keith Zimmerman picked up a camera for the first time at the age of 49. His new photo book "Outside" is his self-published debut depicting the lives of dozens of people sheltering on the streets of Portland — an experience that he is personally familiar with. This month Keith celebrated eight years of sobriety after experiencing addiction and homelessness for decades. “People living outside are just like you — they’re our neighbors,” said Keith, who goes by his artist name, Keith Z. “I wanted to allow a space for somebody who’s not necessarily had that experience to be able to get close to these people and consider them as human beings.” Video and writing by Jireh Deng/OPB Additional photos by Keith Zimmerman.

An Oregon Parking Lot Was Transformed Into a Forest-Inspired Library
At East County Library in Gresham, Oregon, timber columns rise through gaps in the acoustic ceiling, keeping the structure visually separate from the surfaces around it. Holst Architecture designed this detail to suggest tree trunks reaching toward a canopy. The forest reference is built into the architecture, rather than applied afterward as a decorative theme.
