MABSCOTT, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Public Health alert has been issued by the Beckley-Raleigh County Health Department following confirmation of a positive case of rabies in the Mabscott area.

The department reports that on Monday, May 21, 2024, the West Virginia Office of Laboratory Services provided notice that a positive rabies test result had been submitted for a bat in the area.

Citizens have been reminded to vaccinate all pets and livestock against rabies and to avoid contact with local wildlife.

“Please do not pet, feed or house stray animals,” said the BRCHD on Tuesday.

A Raleigh County Anti Rabies Clinic will be held in June of this year, beginning June 1 and running through June 8. The clinic schedule is now available through the Raleigh County Assessor’s Office.
