The New York Mets snatched defeat from the jaws of victory again on Saturday afternoon, turning a one-run ninth-inning lead into a 7-2, 10-inning loss.

That loss was their 12th in the past 15 games, their fifth in a row and dropped them to a disappointing 21-30 for the season.

After Friday's loss owner Steve Cohen took to social media and expressed his disgust .

On Saturday, the team's broadcast joined in the parade of disbelief.

It is not just the losses that are sinking the Mets' season. It is the way they are losing, seemingly inventing new and more frustrating ways to lose.

The big common denominator in a lot of these recent losses is the bullpen falling apart and blowing big leads.

On Friday, the Mets held a 6-2 lead in the top of the eighth inning and watched it slip away when Patrick Bailey of the Giants clubbed a grand slam.

On Saturday, the Mets had a 2-1 lead in the ninth when $100 million closer Edwin Diaz blew his third consecutive save in the ninth, followed by the bullpen giving up five runs in the top of the 10th inning.

A little more than a week ago, they lost a 9-5 lead in the ninth inning to the Miami Marlins before going on to lose in 10 innings.

All of this is coming on the heels of a disappointing 2023 season that saw the Mets waste one of the highest payrolls in baseball history and shockingly become sellers at the trade deadline. Expectations were not anywhere near as high this season, but the club is still finding ways to disappoint. With star first basemen Pete Alonso in the final year of his contract, it is becoming increasingly likely that they could become big-time sellers again at this year's deadline.
