Richard “Ric” was born to Majorie Priscilla Schutt and John Elmer Smith October 24th, 1949 in Arlington Washington.
He loved fishing and hunting in Washington’s Puget Sound area prior to moving to Arizona in 1960.
He attended McClintock High School in Tempe, Arizona and played saxophone in the McClintock marching band. He graduated from high school in 1967.
He served in the United States Navy from 1968 to 1972 aboard the USS Enterprise during the Vietnam War. After his discharge from the Navy, he attended classes at Mesa Community College.
Ric worked for many years as a software engineer for Motorola. He loved being outside, camping and four wheeling in the Arizona desert along with spending time with his family.
Ric never married or had kids but made sure to care for his parents later in life and was always there for his brother and two nephews. Ric was the fun uncle everyone wishes they had. He brought the best, most random gifts to every family occasion just because he could.
Ric loved his country and his community of Queen Valley, Arizona.
He is survived by his brother, Larry Smith (Terry) of Flagstaff, and nephews John Smith (Miranda) of Carson City, Nevada and Ian Smith (Jen) of Flagstaff, as well as two great-nephews and three great-nieces.
The Family will have a celebration of life to honor Ric at a later date. Donations can be made in his name to the Queen Valley Fire District.
