Highly pathogenic avian influenza found in Canada geese at Laurel’s South Pond
Canada geese that were found dead at Laurel’s South Pond last week have tested positive for highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI). While the pond is still open for walking, Montana FWP posted signs warning visitors to stay away from the carcasses and to keep their pets away as well. Laurel Mayor Dave Waggoner said the city is working every day to pick up the dead geese at the pond, but some are embedded in the ice making it difficult and dangerous to get to them.
