With action in the transfer portal slowing down, it is time to take a closer look at how each P4 school did during this cycle. Up now are the BYU Cougars

The skinny: Following their first season in the Big 12, where they finished at 5-7 and 2-7 in conference, the Cougars only had nine scholarship players enter the portal. The season wasn’t all bad though, as injuries played a huge factor in what started off with a promising 5-2 start. BYU used the portal trying to strengthen a position that floundered in 2023, the offensive line, while also attempting to add depth to a few other important spots.

Total # entries into portal: 31

Total # of scholarship players who entered portal: 9

Number of scholarship players who withdrew: 1

Key losses: DL Danny Saili (Arkansas), QB Ryder Burton (West Virginia)

Key additions: QB Gerry Bohanon (USF), LB Jack Kelly (Weber State), OL Austin Leusa (Southern Utah), OL Isaiah Jatta (Colorado), DB Marque Collins (Weber State)

Final thoughts: While the Cougars didn’t add any high-profile players though the portal, the additions of Austin Leusa and Isaiah Jatta during the spring were important for an offensive line that need reinforcements. Gerry Bohanan likely won’t start at quarterback, but adds experience and depth, Marque Collins is a potential starter at cornerback despite missing the spring with an injury, and Jack Kelly was one of the highlights of the spring in Provo. The upcoming season won’t be made or broken by transfers, but a few of the additions could prove to be invaluable by the conclusion.
