Charles Kimme, the Paulina stage driver, met with a serious accident last Thursday on the way out.

While going between Paul Held's place and Grant Mays, the wagon tongue broke and this so frightened the horses that they became unmanageable. After going some distance, they ran into a juniper and this threw the driver violently to the ground. His leg was broken, and he was otherwise injured. He crawled two miles during the night.

The mail not arriving on time at the Mays place started an inquiry and this led Held to make an investigation. The injured man was found by Held after he had laid out all night. Dr. Rosenberg was called and he had the injured man brought to town. Kimme's leg was so badly swollen that the doctor has not yet been able to reduce the fracture.

The new corporation, Radio Central Oregon, Inc., was formed by Mr. Matheny, Robert M. Bruce and C. J. Stuart, all of whom were formerly associated with station KYJC at Medford, Oregon.

The announcement of plans for Radio Central Oregon, Inc. included a statement by Mr. Matheny and Mr. Bruce that five Crook County men will participate in the enterprise. The statement issued through Secretary Thomison of the chamber of commerce included the following:

C. R. Matheny, former Medford radio man, as spokesman for Radio Central Oregon, Inc., announced Monday that application has been made to the Federal Communications Commission in Washington, DC, for locating in Prineville a 1,000-watt radio station. In the announcement, made through Joe D. Thomison, secretary-manager of the Prineville-Crook County chamber of commerce, Mr. Matheny declared the station will be the most powerful in Central Oregon. Acting on the application will be pressed, Mr. Matheny's announcement stated, and plans call for operation of the new station by mid-August 1949.

Ochoco Grade School, Madras Highway, was burglarized sometime during the evening of Saturday, April 27, according to Andy Jensen, principal, who reported the incident.

Entry was gained by throwing a rock through the window of the faculty room on the east end of the building, reaching through the hole and opening the window.

An aspirin bottle was thrown through the door window of the principal's office to gain entrance to there and the secretary's main office. A ring of keys to the coke machine and several other closets and rooms was stolen from the cupboard in the main office, along with several other small items.

Two boys, ages 10 and 11, nearly lost their lives Sunday when they attempted to navigate Ochoco Creek on a raft.

An unidentified woman called 911 about 1:30 Sunday afternoon to report seeing the two boys going into the water near the Harwood Street bridge. A man passing by apparently also witnessed the adventure that quickly turned into danger and jumped into the cold, brown water.

In the few minutes it took for police and fire rescue teams to arrive, the raft had broken up and while one boy held onto a tree that grew out over the swift moving water, his friend was held by the man who grasped another tree.

Fireman Steve Dehart said both police and firemen worked beautifully together, getting an emergency rope strung across the creek.

"I asked the boy if he could hold on a little while longer," Dehart said. "I didn't know how long he had been in the cold water." It only takes a few minutes, he explained, for a person's body temperature to drop and hypothermia to set in. "Не looked awfully cold ... and awfully scared," said Dehart. With the boy holding firmly onto the rope, he was quickly pulled ashore and rushed to a waiting ambulance.

The man was also hustled ashore and placed in the ambulance as was the other boy. Everyone was taken to Pioneer Memorial Hospital, treated for hypothermia and later released.
