PRINCETON (WVNS) – Nurses across the nation are celebrated from May 6th through May 12th. WVU Medicine: Princeton Community Hospital celebrated their nurses as well.

One way nurses were honored is through a “Blessing of the Hands” ceremony.

Local pastors came to the hospital to anoint and pray over the hands of nurses who chose to participate.

This was one of many events WVU Medicine: Princeton Community Hospital hosted to recognize and honor their nurses.

Tim Anderson, Chief Nursing Officer for WVU Medicine: Princeton Community Hospital, said this event was good for nurses because it reminds them of their calling.

“I think the importance is to remind every nurse to go back to why they became a nurse – that we need to understand our patients and families, to kind of refresh you. Again, to kind of give you a renewed spirit of what we are here for and that’s for our patients,” said Anderson to 59News.

Anderson has been a nurse for almost 40 years. He said the “Blessing of the Hands” event reminds him to be patient and compassionate as a nurse.
