Miles Memorial Nears Completion
Miles Memorial at the Miles Cemetery is nearing completion, and the Miles Legion Members are still accepting donations to assist with the project. A time capsule will be set in place on Memorial Day. at that time the Memorial will be complete with the telescopic flags erected behind the wall.
Earth Day Westside Park and Preston/Spragueville Trail Cleanup Occurred
On Earth Day, 35 Easton Valley Third Graders helped to pick up garbage and prep the flower beds at Westside Park in Preston along with members of the Preston Growth and Development Committee. Committee members also worked with 13 Easton Valley High School FFA members to spruce up the surroundings along the bike trail. Over all 27 large bags of debris were collected by the students in both locations.

Relay for Life Event Held in Spragueville Community Center
A Relay for Life fundraising event was held at the Spragueville Community Center. A baked potato and taco bar meal was served and then guests were treated to music performed by two members of the musical group, Simple Company. Iowa Grapevine was on hand to provide samples of their various wines. Several silent auctions were bid on and tickets were available for the handcrafted Relay for Life Quilt that will be drawn for later in the summer.
Clinton changes animal protection and control code
The City of Clinton will be making some changes to its city code for animal protection and control. Changes include requiring pets to be leashed on all city property, including parks. City leaders say they want to enforce the change due to dog-biting cases. Other changes include limiting the amount of pets per household to six total. Residents can have more than six pets if the animals are microchipped and spayed or neutered. A one-time fee is required, and people must register their address with the city. City leaders say they hope to prevent animal hoarding cases.

High School Quiz Bowl Wraps Up Season
The Easton Valley Quiz Bowl team wrapped up the 2023-2024 season this weekend in Chicago on a national stage in the NAQT (National Academic Quiz Tournaments) Small School National Championship Tournament. After check-in on Friday, the Riverhawks played ten rounds on Saturday beginning at 9:00 in the morning and finishing at 5:30 that afternoon. Eighty-eight teams from all over the U.S. competed in this invite, by qualification tournament. Teams had to have at least six wins to move on to the next rounds on Sunday.
