Birmingham, Huntsville, Montgomery and Mobile Face Highs Up to 100 Degrees and Scattered Strong Wind and Lightning Storms This Afternoon as a Front Drops Into Alabama
BIRMINGHAM, ALA. — Dangerous late-summer heat will grip Alabama again today, with afternoon highs climbing into the 95 to 100 degree range across much of the state, even as an increase in thunderstorm activity moves in behind a surface front dropping into the Deep South. The Storm Prediction Center has placed most of Alabama under a Marginal Risk, Level 1 of 5, for severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening, with a small corner of the northeast upgraded to a Slight Risk, Level 2 of 5, as the same front and increasing instability combine to fuel stronger storm cells.
