HENDERSON, Ky (WEHT) – A Poseyville man is in the Vanderburgh County Jail after Evansville Police say he attempted to run from detectives after a suspected drug deal.

According to an affidavit, on May 6, detectives with the Evansville-Vanderburgh County Drug Task Force received information from a confidential source that Alexander Weber, 30, was selling narcotics out of the 1320 block of E. Missouri Street.

The source would reveal to authorities that Weber would walk to a nearby Harbor Freight to deal the narcotics.

Police would conduct surveillance on Weber’s residence when they reportedly saw a bicyclist walk into the rear of the residence for a short amount of time.

That bicyclist would be stopped for several traffic infractions, and when he allegedly gave consent for a search, police reportedly found a clear plastic bag that tested positive for fentanyl. The bicyclist allegedly admitted he purchased it from Weber.

EPD says Weber left the residence and began to walk towards Harbor Freight. Authorities reportedly saw Weber with an unknown subject in a dark Jeep SUV when he allegedly handed something to the SUV occupant.

That was when authorities moved in, and when they identified themselves, Weber reportedly took off and ran.

EPD says Weber ran in between two houses and threw a red object into the backyard of a house in the 1400 block of E. Missouri Street. EPD also says a black cell phone fell from Weber when he reportedly jumped over a fence. Weber was caught and handcuffed in the front yard of a residence in the 1400 block of E. Missouri Street.

When authorities went back and picked up the object Weber allegedly threw, they saw it was a red and black cigarette box that allegedly had two baggies of fentanyl.

Detectives also reportedly found a bag of fentanyl in the path where Weber ran in the parking lot of the 1400 block of E. Louisiana Street.

The affidavit also says Weber had almost $2,000 of cash in his pocket. He is facing several charges including Dealing Cocaine or Narcotic Drug and Resisting Law Enforcement.
