Portsmouth police say a juvenile shot Friday evening has died.

At 6:15 p.m., police went to the 30 block of Farragut Street on a call about a shooting, according to PPD.

One juvenile was found suffering from a gunshot wound.

Saturday morning, police confirmed the victim had passed away in a statement from Chief Stephen Jenkins:

"I met with the mother and extended family of the young boy, whose life was tragically taken, and they were distraught over their son’s death.

As the top officer of the Portsmouth Police Department, I am outraged over another young life taken over neighborhood disputes, where juveniles turn to guns to settle differences. As the Chief of Police, I can assure you that we are doing—and will do-- everything we can to find everyone responsible for the loss of this young life and let the perpetrators have their day in court."

A neighbor told News 3 she had been at home at the time the shots rang out and had worried she and others in her family could be hit.

"I hear three or four gunshots and a swarm of kids run past, probably ten or eleven kids. Then nine or ten more gunshots and some screaming and then three or four more gunshots," said the neighbor.

She said this wasn't the first shooting she's heard happen in the area.
