Monday Seacoast roundup: PHS girls lax, Exeter boys lax, York baseball, WHS softball win

ANDOVER, Mass. - Annie Parker scored a game-high six goals as the Portsmouth High School girls lacrosse team crossed state lines and earned a 15-5 non-league win over Andover.

Morgan Ruhnke added five goals and two assists for Portsmouth, which improved to 3-0 on the season.

Ginger Vinciguerra had two goals for the Clippers, while Addie Delisle had a goal and two assists. Emery Lawton (goal, assist), Lily Patterson (assist) and Ella Souza (assist) all figured in the scoring.

Portsmouth goalie Sage Bussiere had six saves.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Windham 19

Spaulding 0

WINDHAM – Spaulding goalie Izzy Orrell had 16 saves in this Division II loss. Teammates Grace Turgeon and Sydney Cormier both played well.

BOYS LACROSSE

Exeter 14

Melrose 5

MELROSE, Mass. - Owen Williams had three goals and one assist and Evan Delorie had four goals for Exeter in its non-league win.

Marshall Lasewicz added three goals for the Blue Hawks, while Tyler Bland, Jackson Greene, and Ryan Dempsey all had one.

Oyster River 8

PLAISTOW - Jake Failla had three goals and one assist for Oyster River in this Division II loss.

Tyler Callander, Alex Moody, Talon Beyer, Jadyn Smart and Dee Tsakiris all had one goal for the Bobcats, who got 10 saves from goalie Cole Norris.

Wells 10

Traip 3

KITTERY, Maine – Asa Lane, Eli Holben and Joey Watts each scored a goal for Traip (0-3) in its Class C loss.

SOFTBALL

Winnacunnet 13

Portsmouth 0

PORTSMOUTH – Maddy Eaton had three hits and four RBIs, and struck out seven over five innings, earning this Division I complete-game win.

Maeva Shapiro and Chloe Cunningham both had two hits for Winnacunnet (6-1).

Lucy Gelbstein, Arden Langmaid, Cunningham and Halisa Carter all scored two runs in the win, and Shapiro, Izzy Goucher, Olivia Hobbs, Lilly Snow and Joslyn Snow all scored one.

Piper Hindle had two hits for Portsmouth (2-2), and Abby Sargent and Bridid Cadle both had one.

Newmarket 12

Wilton 6

WILTON – Lily Thompson had four hits, four RBIs and scored two runs for Newmarket in this Division IV win.

Anika Benson, Hanna Chesley and Emma Walkowiak all had three hits and three RBIs for the Mules, while Emma Surina had a hit and scored three runs.

Surina allowed four hits and struck out three over four innings, earning the win. Kierra Souphakhot struck out eight over the final three innings.

BASEBALL

Goffstown 11

Exeter 1

GOFFSTOWN – The Grizzlies scored three runs in the first and fourth innings, and five in the fifth, beating Exeter in this Division I game.

Hayden Schimoler and Cam Keaveney each had a hit for Exeter. Schimoler scored Exeter's lone run in the first inning.

York 10

Wells 3

YORK, Maine – Ben Brown had two-run doubles in both the fifth and sixth innings for York in its Class B South win.

Brown’s double in the fifth gave York (2-0) a 2-1 lead, and the Wildcats added seven runs in the sixth.

Brody Gullison, who laced an RBI double, struck out six over three innings in relief, earning the win.

Bow 2

St. Thomas Aquinas 1

BOW – Peyton Larrabee struck out 13 and allowed three hits over seven innings, handing St. Thomas its first loss of the season.

Charles Covert had two hits for STA (3-1), while Cade Murphy had one. Kenny Avery scored in the third for the Saints.

STA starter Sam Grondin struck out seven and allowed four hits and one earned run over five innings.

Newmarket 16

Wilton-Lyndeborough 4

WILTON – Evan Sheehan had three hits and struck out five over 3 2/3 scoreless innings, earning this Division IV win for Newmarket (4-0).

Jackie Prompradit had three hits and four RBIs for the Mules, and Jack Ferrelli had two hits and three RBIs, and Cam Moran had one hit and two RBIs.

Lake Region 10

Traip Academy 0

NAPLES, Maine – Quinn Alesssi had two hits and a stolen base for Traip Academy in its Class C South season opener.

DURHAM - Owen Jacques struck out four, allowing one in the final three innings of this Division II loss for Oyster River. Jacques also had two hits, while Cam Sengenberger had an RBI.

SOUTH BERWICK, Maine – Tia Anderson (No. 2, 6-0, 6-1) and Ivy Landry (No. 3, 4-6, 6-1, 10-6) won in singles action for Marshwood in a Class A South match.

PORTSMOUTH – River Driscoll delivered a two-run walk-off single for Portsmouth.

Maddie Murdach had an RBI double for the Clippers, who got solid pitching from Eva Lyng and Tiana Demers.
