Saturday Seacoast Roundup: Portsmouth boys lax wins, Somersworth girl ties meet record

PORTSMOUTH - Ben Purcell scored a game-high four goals as the Portsmouth High School boys lacrosse team beat Goffstown, 14-5 on Saturday in a Division II match.

Portsmouth improved to 5-0 on the season, while Goffstown is 2-2.

Zac Amend and Reilly Collins each added three goals for the Clippers, while Briggs Catino had two and Lucas Patten and Nick Smith both had one.

Amend added two assists, and Collins, Catino, Patten and Smith all had one. Smith also was 11-for-15 on faceoffs. Portsmouth goalies AJ Craig and Kai Paterson combined for nine saves.

Defensively, Nash Conklin and Sawyer Bouvier shined.

Somersworth's Comeau ties meet record

KINGSTON - Somersworth's Savanna Comeau won the long jump with a distance of 16 feet, 5 inches, tying a Sanborn Invitational meet record.

Sya McKay was second in the high jump (5-0), while Tayshawn Sheppard was third in the boys triple jump (40-01.5).

Portsmouth places second in both boys, girls

EXETER - Portsmouth placed second in both girls and boys at a four-team meet at Phillips Exeter Academy.

PEA won the girls meet with a score of 87, while Portsmouth (67), Austin Prep (41) and St. Paul's (30) placed second through fourth, respectively.

In the boys race, it was PEA (107), Portsmouth (68), Austin Prep (44) and St. Paul's (33).
