Runners from Seacoast New Hampshire and southern York County, Maine were among the approximately 30,000 athletes who competed in the 128th Boston Marathon on Monday.

Matt Homich of Portsmouth finished in 2 hours 44 minutes 13 seconds, the top time for a Seacoast New Hampshire area runner. He placed 731st overall and 699th among men. He competed in the ages 18-39 division and averaged 6:16 per mile. Read on for a look at local runners and a list of their finishing times.

Winnacunnet track coach sets Boston Marathon personal best

Winnacunnet High School spring track and field coach Cassie Kruse completed her fourth Boston Marathon in a time of 3:05.50, beating last year's time of 3:13.

“A little bit of improvement, even with the heat,” Kruse said. “The crowd, cheering, was absolutely spectacular. I was able to see some friends and my husband along the course; that got me through for sure.”

Kruse said it was emotional making a left turn onto Boyltston Street and having the finish line in site.

“I feel blessed every time I am able to complete a marathon,” Kruse said. “The energy from the crowd is great. I was hoping to break 3 hours, but with the heat I had to readjust my pace mid-race. I am happy with how I did. I wanted to get a Boston PR, and I did that.”

Kruse, who grew up outside Chicago and ran for the University of New Hampshire women’s track team before graduating in 2017, has now completed eight marathons, including the Chicago Marathon in fall 2022.

“Boston is the oldest marathon in the world, you can’t really beat that," Kruse said. "But the Chicago energy was also incredible. They’re both amazing.”

Kruse wants to keep running Boston as long as she keeps qualifying.

“Hopefully, I’ll be able to do Boston again next year,” Kruse said.
