Woman who died at Cumberland County Jail identified

Portland police and the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office have identified the woman who died at Cumberland County Jail earlier this month, the Portland Press Herald reported .

Bridgett Toulan, 47, of Portland, was found unresponsive in a cell at about 5:45 a.m. on April 10, according to Capt. Erik Frigon of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office. Attempts to revive her were unsuccessful.

Her death is being investigated by the Portland Police Department, the Maine Department of Corrections and medical examiner’s office, Frigon said at the time.

The Press Herald quoted Portland Police Department spokesperson Brad Nadeau saying the case remains under investigation.

Toulan was arrested on April 8 on drug charges, including possession of methamphetamine and cocaine, and operating under the influence, according to records from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office cited by the Press Herald.

Toulan was born in Baltimore and “was always known to have the biggest heart and always such a positive outlook on life despite the circumstances,” according to an obituary published at dignitymemorial.com .

A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. on April 23rd at St. Mark’s Chapel, 30 Melvin Ave. Cantonsville, Maryland.
