PORT NECHES — This year’s annual Port Neches RiverFest celebration opened Wednesday to large crowds seeking carnival rides, food, games and some Christian fellowship.

Cindy Flowers, Missy Flowers and Kathy Lynd, who were representing BridgePoint Bridge City and Mid County, sat in a row near the stage area waiting to hear artist Tauren Wells.

The ladies were in good spirits and enjoying the start of the festival.

Over at the children’s rides, mom Michelle Minshew watched as her children took a ride down the slide. The family attends the festival every year, where they see friends, ride the rides and listen to music, she said.

Cecilia Orantes, her mother Maricela, and 9-year-old triplet daughters Jaysa, Janelle and Jocelyn stopped by a food vendor for some pizza and nachos before the girls posed for a quick photo.

At the stage area members of the RiverFest Committee welcomed the crowd to the opening of the festival, then allowed this year’s royalty to introduce themselves. They include: Petite Miss Port Neches Abigail McKey, Young Miss Port Neches Bostyn Pardue, Future Miss Port Neches Kynle Vasquez, Junior Miss Scout Thompson, and Miss Port Neches Sophia Lewis.

Port Neches RiverFest runs through May 6 at Port Neches Riverfront Park.

The annual festival features Thunder on the Neches power boat races produced by John Schubert with NGK-F1 Powerboat Championship, live entertainment, a carnival, food and arts and craft vendors among other events.
