Convicted Felon Arrested After Rifle Found During Traffic Stop in Santa Rosa
A convicted felon on probation was arrested in Santa Rosa after being found with a rifle. On Tuesday evening, an officer and his K-9 partner stopped a pick-up truck for a vehicle code violation. The officer asked the driver, 27-year-old Jose Torrestepuri, to get out of the vehicle when he thought he saw a knife handle under his right leg. It turned out to be a screwdriver. The K-9 officer sniffed around the truck and alerted his partner near the driver’s door of the truck. The officer found a loaded rifle in a black plastic bag in a large toolbox in the bed of the truck behind the cab. Torrestepuri was arrested on several charges related to firearms and violation of probation.
2 Santa Rosa teens arrested after stabbing, being found with knife
Police in Santa Rosa dealt with two incidents involving knives at local high schools Wednesday, one of which resulted in a gang-related fight and stabbing.A 14-year-old student at Santa Rosa High School was allegedly assaulted by another student with a knife on Wednesday morning, police said. A school administrator contacted the Santa Rosa Police Department around 10:15 a.m. about a possible stabbing.An investigation revealed that the 14-year-old was near the school's baseball field at 8:30 a.m. when he was approached by the 16-year-old suspect. Caltrans Clearing Joe Rodota Trail Encampment as Residents Leave
Caltrans is clearing a large homeless encampment near the Joe Rodota Trail and Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit Trail in Santa Rosa. About 70 people had called the state-owned area home before the sweep started on Wednesday morning. People were allowed to take what belongings they could with them before leaving the illegal encampment. California Highway Patrol officers were on hand, ready to remove any person who refused to leave. But, there are no reports of anyone being uncooperative.
