    Pontiac softball reaches 20-win plateau with win over PBL

    Head coach Nicole Hayner made an adjustment in the lineup and came up a winner as Pontiac routed Paxton-Buckley-Loda 13-0 in an Illini Prairie Conference softball game Thursday. The win pushed PTHS to 20 wins on the season and snapped a two-game slide.

    Kendall Pitchford took full advantage of moving to the top spot in the order by collecting three base knocks, driving in three runs and scoring twice. India Mattingly collected a triple, double, two RBIs and scored three times. Aubrey Shepherd also had two hits, including a double, and two runs batted in each and Bailey Masching recorded a double, single and a run batted in. Maddie Gourley, Paige Meier, Cadence Helms and Brooke Burger each singled. Tessa Collins drove in two runs while Lily Fetgatter each drove in a run Meier.

    Mattingly had a two-run three-bagger as PTHS scored seven runs in the first inning. The Amerinds added two runs in the second and three in the third in building a 12-0 advantage. A run in the fifth capped the scoring.

    Shepherd struck out nine and allowed just one hit in picking up the win. Natalie Zimmerman fanned two in finishing up.

    Marquette 8, Pontiac 7 – At Ottawa, Marquette claimed a walk-off win in a nonconference game Wednesday. Helms homered and PTHS collected 14 hits but Shepherd (three strikeouts) couldn’t contain the Crusaders. Helms had three hits and drove in two runs while Elena Krause also collected three safeties. Masching and Gourley had two hits apiece. Masching, Pitchford and Adriann Sutton each doubled.

    Marist 2, Pontiac 0 – At Pontiac, the hosts managed just two hits in a nonconference loss to Class 4A Chicago (Marist) on April 30. Gourley and Masching each singled. Krause took the loss despite striking out nine and scattering six hits. The loss snapped an 11-game winning streak for the Amerinds.

    Pontiac 7, BCC 1 – At Pontiac, Krause gave up two hits and struck out 12 in six innings as PTHS topped Central Catholic 7-1 at The Diamond at Williamson Field on April 29. Shepherd finished up. Krause had two hits and drove in three runs while Gourley had two hits and two RBIs. Krause and India Mattingly each doubled as the Amerinds collected seven safeties.

    Prairie Central 16, Fieldcrest 1 – At Fairbury, Rylee Galloway had one of those games in leading Prairie Central to a lopsided nonconference win over Fieldcrest Friday. Galloway collected a double, three singles, drove in five runs and scored four times in the rout. Jules Woodrey also provided some punch with her bat and arm. Kyah Creek and Lucy Whitfill had two hits apiece while Sam Slagel homered, Kyla Stephens (RBI) doubled and Kyrsten Atkins (RBI) singled.

    Woodrey had two hits and drove in two runs to help her cause. Woodrey struck out four in tossing a three-hitter as the Hawks improved to 13-13 on the season.

    Olympia 11, Prairie Central 1 – At Stanford, Woodrey collected two hits and drove in the lone Prairie Central run as the Hawks suffered a nonconference loss to host Olympia on Thursday. Creek, Kate Slagel and Lydia Kilgus had one hit apiece. Dixie Hogan took the loss in the circle. Faith Fields also pitched.

    Prairie Central 8, IVC 2 – At Chillicothe, Sam Slagel homered to lead off the game and Prairie Central cruised from there in an Illini Prairie Conference tilt on April 29. Led by Creek’s three knocks (two RBIs), including a double, the Hawks collected 11 hits. Sam Slagel belted two solo homers and Galloway doubled and singled. Atkins also had two hits and Woodrey had a hit and drove in two runs.

    Hogan allowed seven hits and fanned seven for the win in the circle.

    Herscher 11, Dwight 1 – At Herscher, the host Tigers scored in each inning to garner a nonconference victory over Dwight Friday. Avery Scheuer smacked a solo home run for the Trojans’ only run. Scheuer had two hits while Madi Ely, Averi Jury and Megan Livingston each singled.

    Ely struck out six in taking he loss for Dwight (12-8). Jury struck out one in relief.

    Dwight 10, Fieldcrest 1 – At Dwight, Madi Ely allowed one hit and an unearned run and Averi Jury flexed her muscles with a pair of round-trippers as the Trojans dropped Fieldcrest in a nonconference tilt on Wednesday. Ely struck out 16 in the circle. Jury had two home runs and a double while driving in four runs. Megan Livingston had three hits and Taylor Frobish had two hits with each driving in a run. Mikayla Ely also collected two hits. Avery Scheuer and Njomza Asllani had one hit apiece.

    Lexington-Ridgeview @ SHG – At Springfield, Sacred Heart-Griffin proved to be too much of a challenge for Lexington-Ridgeview, who was blanked by the Class 3A Cyclones Friday. The Minutemen (13-14) were limited to two hits – both singles coming off the bats of Eleana Atkins and Mikayla Ziegler. Hailey Foote fanned two in taking the loss. Belle Payne had two punchouts in relief.

    Lexington-Ridgeview 10, Eureka 8 – At Lexington, Mackenzie Wesson had three hits, including a double, to lead a 10-hit attack for Lexington-Ridgeview. Ella Sunday had two hits and two RBIs and Emilee Bratcher had two hits. Bratcher got the win in the circle. Payne finished up with both striking out three.

    IVC 5, Lexington-Ridgeview 4 – At Chillicothe, Lexington-Ridgeview scored three times to take the lead in the top of the seventh inning, but Illinois Valley Central answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame for the nonconference win. Ziegler homered and singled while Allison Epley had a triple and single and Bratcher had two hits and plated two runs. Payne took the loss.

    Herscher 12, EPG 8 – At El Paso, the Titans let one slip away as Herscher rallied in the seventh inning to get past El Paso-Gridley in a nonconference game at South Pointe Park. Morgan Seggerman and Nickelle Cummings each homered as EPG led 8-7 entering the seventh. Seggerman had two hits and drove in two runs while had two hits and three RBIs. Tori Seggerman (RBI), Isabel Vargas and Gracie Sieger each doubled. Sieger (3 strikeouts) took the loss in the circle.

    Knoxville 10, EPG 0 – At Knoxville, Nickelle Cummings took the loss as El Paso-Gridley dropped a nonconference decision to host Knoxville Wednesday. Morgan Seggerman had two hits while Vargas and Lexi Schouweiler had one hit each.

    BCC 13, EPG 5 – At El Paso, Central Catholic answered the Titans’ four-run first with four in the second and went on to claim the nonconference game at South Pointe Park on April 30. Vargas homered and Tori Seggerman doubled for EPG. Claire Stroh had two hits and Morgan Seggerman, Sieger and Sloan Gentes had hits. Sieger took the loss in relief as EPG used three twirlers.

    WFC-Henry – At Woodland, the second game of the home-and-home series between Woodland-Flanagan-Cornell and Henry-Senachwine was as close as the first. The good news for WFC is winning both games. On Thursday, the Warriors prevailed 2-1 in walk-off fashion as Ella Derossett lofted a sacrifice fly to plate Olivia Chismarick with the winning tally in the eighth inning. Derossett had two hits, including a triple, and Chismarick had a three-base, which came in the WFC eighth. Kaylee Henert and Shae Simons singled. Simons struck out eight in picking up the complete-game victory.

    On April 30, Derossett doubled and scored in the fourth inning for the only tally in a 1-0 WFC victory. Chismarick and Kaiden Connor each singled. Simons struck out 11 in tossing the shutout.

    WFC 3, Peoria Christian 0 – At Woodland, Simons tossed a three-hit shutout as WFC triumphed. She struck out 13. Seven different Warriors singled.

    St. Bede 5, WFC 0 – At Peru, St. Bede limited WFC to three hits in a nonconference win on April 29. Jaylei Leininger, Simons and Aubrey Edens each singled. Simons struck out eight in taking the loss.
