POLK COUNTY, Iowa — The name of a Slater man who died Wednesday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash near Polk City has been released.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said Timothy Simmer, 63, was the driver and the only occupant of the SUV that was found crashed in a field in the 2800 block of NW 126th Avenue. A passerby called 911 just after 2:30 p.m. after spotting the SUV.

The PCSO said the investigation indicated Simmer was driving a GMC Yukon westbound on NW 126th Ave. when the SUV left the road, went into the south ditch, and through a fence before it stopped in the field.

Simmer was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation into what caused the accident continues.
