    PREP ROUNDUP: Century baseball team keeps season alive with win over Preston

    The Century baseball team isn’t done yet.

    The Diamondbacks, whose season was on the brink following a loss to Preston in the opening round of the Class 4A District V Tournament Friday, kept their season alive and got payback in the process.

    They returned the favor with an 8-2 win over the Indians in an elimination game Tuesday.

    Elias Blackhawk delivered on the hill with his five-hit, nine-strikeout performance.

    Jack Mattox and Cooper Snyder tallied two hits apiece, while Daxton Poulson drove in a pair of runs for Century (8-15) in the win.

    It will now play Pocatello (15-10) for the district crow at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Halliwell Park. But the Diamondbacks will have to beat the reigning district champions twice in order to walk away with the title. The Thunder won the regular season series 2-1.

    Conner Thomson was the only Preston (8-13) player to register more than one hit on the day with two. He also threw four strikeouts on the bump in the season-ending loss.

    SOFTBALLHIGHLAND GOES TWO-AND-OUT AT DISTRICTSA tough season for the Rams (4-22) came to an end Tuesday at the Class 5A District V-VI Tournament.

    They were quickly eliminated in 10-0 and 11-7 losses to Thunder Ridge and Rigby, respectively.

    Madison Kendall and Janae Whitehead mustered the only two hits for Highland against the Titans.

    It faired much better against the Trojans. But the Rams were unable to recover after allowing eight runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Kendall logged two hits and two RBIs. Isabel Orr also had two hits and Whitehead a pair of runs driven in.
