PLAINVIEW — Police on Thursday afternoon arrested a man who they believe is responsible for shooting and critically injuring a woman overnight in central Plainview.

According to Plainview police, officers were called to the 1300 block of Kokomo Street just before 2 a.m. Thursday for reports of shots fired. There they found a 54-year-old woman with gunshot wounds to her hand and torso.

The woman was taken to a local hospital, where she remains in critical condition. The woman's name was not released as police work to notify her family.

Police took 46-year-old Quarran Thomas into custody just before 8:30 a.m. Thursday after he spoke with PPD detectives. He is charged with aggravated assault in connection with the shooting.

Police believe the shooting took place in a home near 13th and Kokomo streets. During a search of the home, officers found a shell casing from a semi-automatic pistol. A witness told officers several people were inside the house drinking when Thomas brandished a firearm and shot the woman, according to police.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call detectives at 806-296-1182.
