JOLIET, Ill. – A 20-year-old man lost his life on Monday morning after a fatal shooting that in the 600 block of East Benton Street. According to Joliet Police it happened at 10:18 AM when shots were fired. On arrival, officers found the man lying in the street, injured from a gunshot wound to the head. Emergency crews swiftly transported him to the nearby Silver Cross Hospital, where medical professionals sadly pronounced him deceased at 11:46 AM.

WJOL has learned the Joliet City Manager Jim Capparelli has resigned. The following state was given to the media from Mayor Terry D’Arcy. Mr. Capparelli wanted to extend his contract beyond his end date of July 12th and he was well aware the City was going to do a search for a City Manager and he was welcome to apply. The City Council made him an offer to continue working during the search. Mr. Capparelli made a counteroffer to the City Council and the offer was rejected. This morning, Mr. Capparelli gave me his resignation. He has told me on several occasions that he has other offers, so we thank him for his service and wish him well in his future endeavors. In the interim, Finance Director Kevin Sing will fill in for Mr. Capparelli.

A 56-year-old Plainfield man was injured Sunday following a single motorcycle crash in the area of North 2650th Road and East 1529th Road in South Ottawa Township. According to La Salle County Sheriff’s deputies, Manuel Salazar-Vazquez was driving west on North 2650th Road at about 1:30 p.m. Sunday when he lost control of his motorcycle, entered the north ditch and struck a tree. He was taken by Life Flight helicopter to OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
