    Baseball recap: Pittsford and Camden-Frontier rematch ends in tie; Rangers bounce back

    HILLSDALE COUNTY — A wild fight-to-the-finish highlighted recent baseball action heading into the first weekend of May.

    Camden-Frontier hosted the Pittsford Wildcats for a rematch of their thrilling comeback win against the Wildcats from April 16. Camden-Frontier completed a three-run swing in the seventh to win that first game at Pittsford. On Thursday night, the Wildcats and RedHawks would end their second game in a 10-10 tie.

    Luis Castro Thilo got the start for Camden-Frontier, throwing five strikeouts and giving up four earned runs. Jaden Martinez backed him up with seven strikeouts, giving up six earned runs.

    For Camden-Frontier, Byron Hukill had three hits, three RBIs and one run. Thilo had three hits, four RBIs and one run. Thilo had a double-base hit. Logan Legget had one hit and two runs. Rodney Weir and Zack Franks had one hit, one RBI and one run each.

    Hunter Peiffer got the start for Pittsford, striking out five and giving up two earned runs. Ethan Pickford had one strikeout and six earned runs. Jake Drawe had four strikeouts and two earned runs.

    Mason Payne and Lane Lewis each collected two doubles. Noah Pann, Pickford and Landon Governo each had one double. Payne had four hits, three RBIs and two runs. Lewis collected three hits, three RBIs and one run.

    Gavyn Carden scored two runs. Pickford had two hits three RBIs and two runs. Peiffer scored two runs.

    The Thursday night tie capped off a strong mid-week run for both teams. Camden-Frontier defeated Litchfield 6-3 and 12-2 earlier in the week. Pittsford swept Waldron 16-4 and 17-0. Both of those games and stats will be featured in our team winners' story after weekend games are recorded.

    Reading baseball shuts out Morenci

    Zach Peiffer recorded his first win of the season with a seven-inning stretch that saw him record 12 strikeouts whilst giving up just four hits. Peiffer led Reading baseball to a 9-0 shut out of the Morenci Bulldogs for their third win of the season.

    It was a strong day of base running for the Rangers, with Colton Hoover and Caiden Baker leading the team with two each.

    Hoover had two hits and three runs. Stephen Anderson had one double and a run. Peifer had two hits, one RBI and two runs. Drew Elder had one triple that drove in three runs. Gavin Wright had two hits, three RBIs and one run. Peyton Green had one hit and two RBIs. Also scoring runs were Baker and Reid Westfall.

    Litchfield scores 23 against North Adams-Jerome in win

    Litchfield baseball bounced back from a doubleheader loss to Camden-Frontier with a 23-8 win over North Adams-Jerome.

    Things were pretty much even between the two in-county rivals through three innings. Litchfield nursed a fragile 4-3 lead heading into the top of the fourth when the Terriers exploded for a 11-run swing over a one and a half inning stretch. The Rams responded with five runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth inning, but the Terriers brought in another eight runs in the sixth to end the game there.

    Tyler Bills got the win with seven strikeouts and three earned runs. Hunter Snyder earned a save with four strikeouts and just one walk over the final two innings.

    Leading the way at-bat for Litchfield was Brady Kerr and Tyler Bills. Bills had two hits, four RBIs and four runs. Kerr had two hits, four RBIs and one run. Jerome Vasquez scored five runs to lead the team. Miguel Pedroza had four hits in four at-bats, two RBIs and three runs. The senior is one of the top baserunners in Hillsdale County and recorded six stolen bases.

    Addison McLouth had three runs and four steals. Simon Collins had three steals and three runs. Junior Alvarez had one double-base hit, one RBI and two runs. Hunter Snyder collected one hit, one RBI and one run. Brandon Campbell scored a run.

    Leading the Rams was Jacob Smith with two hits, two RBIs and one run. Conner Arsenault had one hit, one RBI and two runs. Connor McKay had one RBI and two runs. Nathan Todd and T Foreman both scored a run. Foreman had one RBI. Nolan Paradine had one hit and one run.

    Other Winners

    The Jonesville Comets played Hanover-Horton three times from Monday to Wednesday. The Comets got one win against Hanover-Horton in a 4-3 final. Hanover-Horton took the other two games.

    Hillsdale won 17-10 in their double header split with Dundee. Scores and stats for these two matchups will be included in our team winners' story after weekend games.
