U.S. News Announces Its 2024 'Best Public High Schools' List.

PISCATAWAY, NJ – U.S. News & World Report has announced its 2023-24 Best Public High Schools , which evaluated nearly 18,000 U.S. public high schools. The top-ranked schools are those whose students 1) earned outstanding scores in math, reading, and science state assessments; 2) took and earned a qualifying score in college-level exams; and 3) graduated in high proportions.

A state-by-state breakdown of the U.S. News & World Report rankings shows that Massachusetts is the leading state for high school education. This state-by-state performance comparison is solely based on which states have the largest proportion of their high schools in the top 25% in this year's rankings. Nearly half (47.1%) of Massachusetts' eligible high schools were in the top 25% of the rankings. Connecticut came in second with 43.9%, New Jersey in third with 42.9%, California in fourth with 42.5% and Florida in fifth place with 38.7% of its schools in the top 25%.

Piscataway High School ranked No. 117 out of 406 in New Jersey and No 2,657 out of 17,655 in National Rankings. Key factors include:

• Reading Proficiency: 50%
• Math Proficiency: 50%
• Science Proficiency: 35%
• Took at Least One AP Exam: 41%
• Passed at Least One AP exam: 33%
• New Jersey Student Learning Assessments: 64%

High Technology High School in Lincroft, NJ, was determined to be the top public high school in New Jersey, according to U.S. News . Two of New Jersey's top ten public high schools -- Edison Academy Magnet School and Middlesex Co. Academy for Allied Health -- are part of the Middlesex County Magnet School District.

7. Bergen County Technical HS – Teterboro (Bergen Co. Vocational Technical School District), Teterboro. (No. 88 nationally).
8. Union County Magnet High School (Union County Vocational-Technical School District), Scotch Plains. (No. 26 nationally).
9. Academy for Information Technology (Union Co. Vocational-Technical School District), Scotch Plains. (No. 122 nationally).
10. Academy for Allied Health Sciences (Union Co. Vocational-Technical School District), Scotch Plains. (No. 230 nationally).

    The highest ranked public schools in the 2024 Best High Schools national rankings are those with students who achieved exceptional scores on state assessments for math, reading and science. These schools also had strong underserved student performance, college readiness and curriculum breadth, as well as high graduation rates. College readiness specifically measures participation and performance on Advanced Placement (AP), while underserved student performance focuses on students who are Black, Hispanic or from low-income households.
