Stanford shreds NC State's defense. Observations from the Wolfpack road loss
N.C. State football changed its preparation schedule prior to heading west to play at Stanford on Friday night. The results were the opposite of what coach Dave Doeren hoped as the Wolfpack fell into a two-touchdown hole and suffered a 31-28 ACC loss to the Cardinal. The Wolfpack looked like it hadn’t adjusted its entire week or flown out two days before the game, attempting to prepare for the time zone change. It didn’t look like a team remotely refreshed from a bye week, in which health and personal improvement were the team’s priorities. N.C. State instead recorded its worst defensive start of the season. Previously, it forced punts on the opening series of its first five games. Wake Forest, at least before Friday night, was the only team to score. No opponent had scored touchdowns on the first two drives of the game. Stanford changed that statistic. Wide receivers Nico Brown and Sedrick Irvin scored consecutive first-quarter touchdowns, giving the Cardinal a 14-0 lead. Duke football staff member no longer working with team after abuse allegations
Duke University issued a statement Friday saying Ranier Rackley, a member of the Blue Devils football staff who is facing civil allegations of sexually abusing a student last year while a teacher at Rolesville High School, is not currently working with the team. “Ranier Rackley is not currently working with the team,” the Duke athletics statement said. “This is a confidential personnel matter, and we cannot comment any further.” A lawsuit filed in Wake County Superior Court names Rackley, who joined the Duke program in April as director of player development, and the Wake County school system as defendants in a sex abuse complaint. The lawsuit, originally filed in July, accuses Rackley of grabbing and groping a female student in his classroom at Rolesville High in November 2025. Rackley has denied the allegations and issued a statement through his attorney stating “respects the legal process and looks forward to addressing the claims in court. He remains devoted to his family and community and appreciates the support he has received.” The Wake County school system declined comment due to the pending lawsuit. Rackley joined the Duke football program in April 2026. His duties, according to his bio on the Duke athletics
