As May turned to June, Matt Sutton officially took up the job of police chief in New Paltz, with Carmine Fuoco stepping into the lieutenant’s role. It’s the beginning of what should be a very active time in New Paltz’s police department. Three arrested by Sullivan Welfare Fraud Task Force
MONTICELLO- The Sullivan County Welfare Fraud Task Force has arrested three men on charges that they stole welfare benefits. Kirk G. Meredith, 46, of Liberty, was arrested and charged with felony offering a false instrument for filing. Police say Meredith failed to report income from being self-employed, resulting in him receiving $625 in SNAP benefits to which he was not otherwise entitled. Meredith was arraigned and released on his own recognizance to return to the Town of Liberty Court at a later date.
53-year-old man arrested in Town of Crawford of shooting
CRAWFORD – A 53-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a shooting on Thursday morning in the Town of Crawford that left the victim critically injured. Anthony Parrish has been charged with first-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon. The Town of Crawford Police Department responded to the area of Route 17K and Teplitz Court at 8 a.m. on Thursday for a report of a 37-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds.
30-year-old man recovering after being stabbed in Newburgh
NEWBURGH – A 30-year-old man is recovering after being stabbed in the City of Newburgh over the weekend. City of Newburgh Police responded to 32 South Miller Street at about 11:30 a.m. on Saturday and found the stabbing victim bleeding heavily from a wound to his upper back. He was transported to Montefiore St. Luke’s Hospital for treatment.
