Op-Ed: Increasing access to credit for underserved communities
Access to credit is the lifeblood of economic opportunity – fostering entrepreneurship, homeownership, and community development. A generation ago, a landmark piece of legislation called the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) was enacted to ensure fair and equitable access to credit. While the CRA has made helped put home ownership within reach for many borrowers in low- and moderate-income (LMI) neighborhoods, more work needs to be done to even the playing field for communities of color. In an era marked by widening economic disparities, reaffirming our commitment to equitable credit access is critical to economic empowerment.

LIBERTY- The Republican candidates for the 100th Assembly district faced off in an hour-long debate to discuss who would be better suited to take on Democrat Paula Kay this November in an attempt to flip the seat from blue-to-red. The 100th Assembly district, which includes portions of Sullivan County as well as the Town of Wallkill and City of Middletown in Orange County, has been represented for more than two decades by Democrat Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther of Forestburgh.
City of Newburgh victim of cybersecurity breach; some services disrupted
NEWBURGH – City of Newburgh officials announced on early Tuesday morning a network security incident, resulting in a temporary disruption of some City services. The City has retained outside IT experts and other professionals who are working feverishly to fully restore operations. At this time, the City is unable to process or accept payments for property taxes, water, sewer, sanitation, permit fees, or parking tickets. Services at City Hall and 123 Grand Street will be closed to the public until further notice.
