    Pioneers baseball team beats Flyers in close game

    The Pierz Pioneers earned a thrilling win against the Little Falls Flyers road game Wednesday, May 1, winning 7-6.

    The Pioneers struck first at the top of the first inning after a hit single from Brayden Haberman, sending Hunter Jacobson (who came in as a pinch runner for Max Barclay) to home plate.

    At the top of the second inning, Reese Young hit an RBI double, sending Kaden Kruschek and Nathan Solinger home, making the score 3-0.

    The Flyers came back swinging at the bottom of the second, having three runs batted in and tying up the game. The score was tied until the fourth inning after a scored run from Joey Stuckmayer and Young. This let the Pioneers regain the lead, 5-3.

    The Flyers stayed close behind, with the score being 6-5 at the end of the sixth inning. The Pioneers’ Bo Woitalla made sure to put the team ahead, hitting a solo home run at the top of the seventh. The Flyers managed to score one more run, but it wasn’t enough, as the Pioneers won the game at a one point deficit.

    Woitalla led the team at the plate with two hits, two runs and two RBIs. Chase Becker pitched for a little over four innings, throwing six strikeouts. Barclay took over in the fifth inning and threw three strikeouts. Both teams had six hits. The Pioneers had four errors and the Flyers had three.

    The Pioneers hosted Foley Tuesday, April 30, also winning 2-1. Weston Woitalla had one hit and one run. Haberman threw six strikeouts on the mound and one error.

    The Pioneers traveled to take on the Albany Huskies Friday, May 3. They will host the Pequot Lakes Patriots Tuesday, May 7.
