The AIA's boys volleyball playoff tournament is underway, and after 24 play-in games and a busy first round this past weekend, 6A-4A quarterfinals will be held on Tuesday. Semifinals will be held on May 9 and the championship for 6A-4A will be held on May 11. Here's a recap of what happened in each quarterfinals and a preview of what's to come:

    6A

In the 6A play-in round, six out of the eight matches were shutouts. Only Desert Ridge (3-1 over Maricopa) and Mountain Ridge (3-1 over Sunnyslope) allowed sets to their opponents. No. 17 Red Mountain was the only underdog to succumb a victory over a higher-ranked seed (No. 16 Rincon/University).

Round one had much of the same. Shutouts across the board as the favorites dominated the round. Looking ahead to Tuesday's quarterfinals, Sandra Day O'Connor and Brophy Prep remain the two top teams in the conference, both looking to bounce back from early eliminations just a season ago.

Here are the full results from round one and the teams poised to face each other in Tuesday's quarterfinals.

Round 1 results: No. 1 Sandra Day O'Connor over No. 16 Red Mountain, 3-0; No. 9 Westwood over No. 8 Mesa, 3-2; No. 5 Highland over No. 12 Liberty, 3-0; No. 4 Shadow Ridge over No. 13 Basha, 3-1; No. 3 Perry over No. 14 Desert Ridge, 3-0; No. 6 Chandler over No. 11 Desert Vista, 3-0; No. 7 Mountain View over No. 10 Mountain Ridge, 3-1; No. 2 Brophy Prep over No. 15 Hamilton, 3-0.

Quarterfinal matchups: No. 9 Westwood vs. No. 1 Sandra Day O'Connor; No. 5 Highland vs. No. 4 Shadow Ridge; No. 6 Chandler vs. No. 3 Perry; No. 7 Mountain View vs. No. 2 Brophy Prep.

    5A

While every favorite in the 5A play-in round shut out their opponent, an announcement shook the bracket as Williams Field, the top-ranked team in 5A, forfeited its first-round matchup against No. 16 Sunrise Mountain.

The forfeit was announced Friday afternoon, just hours before the two teams were set to play. The Black Hawks conducted an unsanctioned scrimmage during the season, which is a violation of the AIA bylaws. All players on Williams Field's roster were deemed ineligible, forcing the team to forfeit.

Sunrise Mountain will take on Williams Field's rival, the Higley Knights, in the quarterfinals. Other than the Black Hawks' forfeit, every favorite won easily in round one. Here are the full results from round one and Tuesday's quarterfinal matchups.

Round 1 results: No. 16 Sunrise Mountain over No. 1 Williams Field, 1-0; No. 8 Higley over No. 9 Catalina Foothills, 3-0; No. 5 Cienega over No. 12 Ironwood, 3-1; No. 4 ALA - QC over No. 13 Ironwood Ridge, 3-0; No. 3 Canyon View over No. 14 Millennium, 3-0; No. 6 Cactus Shadows over No. 11 Willow Canyon, 3-0; No. 7 ALA - Gilbert North over No. 10 Campo Verde, 3-0; No. 2 Casteel over No. 15 Verrado, 3-0.

Quarterfinal matchups: No. 16 Sunrise Mountain vs. No. 8 Higley; No. 5 Cienega vs. No. 4 ALA - QC; No. 11 Willow Canyon vs. No. 3 Canyon View; No. 7 ALA - Gilbert North vs. No. 2 Casteel.

    4A

Like 6A and 5A's play-in matches, 4A's slate had much of the same; Just one upset in eight matches (No. 18 Sabino over No. 15 Eastmark) stood out from the rest. And unlike the one-sided outcomes of 6A and 5A's first round, 4A's first round had an abundance of upsets.

No. 12 Estrella Foothills upset No. 5 Salpointe Catholic 3-1, while No. 11 Barry Goldwater and No. 10 Odyssey Institute upset No. 6 Deer Valley and No. 7 Prescott by the same score. No. 1 Northwest Christian will look to continue its dominance at it takes on No. 8 Benjamin Franklin on Tuesday. Northwest Christian still has yet to allow a set this season.

Here are the full results from 4A's round one and Tuesday's quarterfinal matchups.
