A GoFundMe for an 18-year-old La Costa Canyon High School graduate who died in a motorcycle collision on Feb. 27 has raised more than $13,000 of its $15,000 goal.

According to local media in Phoenix , Carrigan Jones, who has been attending classes at Grand Canyon University, lost control of his motorcycle and struck a light pole. He was declared dead at the scene.

“Detectives responded and learned Jones was driving west on Camelback Road when he lost control and crashed into a light pole,” Phoenix police Sgt. Brian Bower said in a media advisory. “Speed is believed to be a factor in this fatal collision. Further details of this incident are still under investigation.”

It was also one of four fatal collisions in Phoenix on Feb. 27. According to police, the other three resulted in the deaths of a bicyclist, a pedestrian who was struck by two cars, and the driver of a car in a single-car collision.

Jones’ mother, Dawn Jones, is an instructional assistant at La Costa Canyon High School.

“Dawn received the devastating call that her beloved son Carrigan Jones went to be with the Lord after a single vehicle motorcycle accident,” according to the GoFundMe page. “No other vehicles were involved. Carrigan was a freshman at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix Arizona, and attended high school at La Costa Canyon where his mother Dawn has worked as a dedicated Instructional Assistant for the last 10 years. I would like to thank each and every person in advance for any donation of support that can help Dawn with funeral arrangements and any other expenses during her time of need.”

Donations can be made at the GoFundMe link in the first sentence of this report.
