IRON STRONG Athletes of the Week: Ava Colontrelle and Jill Miller

PHILLIPSBURG, NJ - TAPinto Phillipsburg presents the next IRON STRONG Athletes of the Week for the Spring 2024 Season, Ava Colontrelle and Jill Miller.

Ava Colontrelle, a junior first baseman, hit a couple round trippers during the week while going 5-for-12 in four games with a double and six RBI. She hit her first home run in the week, a 12-6 loss to Warren Hills, on Monday where she went 2-for-4 with three RBI.

She ended the week with a two-run shot, her team-leading fourth home run of the season, when the Stateliners broke their six-game losing streak with a 7-0 victory over Pingry. In addition, Colontrelle also leads the team with a .432 batting average (16-for-36), an .838 slugging percentage and 14 runs batted in.

“Ava is a great athlete who has a no-nonsense attitude when she gets to the field,” long-time softball coach Kristin Polet said. “She’s been a starter since her freshman season and from the beginning has honed her skills to be an all-around player. She plays a flawless first base and is a leader on and off the field. We are fortunate to have her.”

Jill Miller, a senior midfielder, recently joined classmate Julia Butler as career 100-goal scorers in girl’s lacrosse.  She’s second on the team this season with 18 goals and leads the team with 18 assists, nine more than the next player. For her career she has 104 goals and 41 assists

Miller is a four-year starter in both lacrosse and field hockey where she scored 100 points in her career. She will attend Stonehill College in Massachusetts to continue her education and playing career in that sport.

“Jill gives you 100 percent effort each game and nothing less,” second-year P’burg girl’s lacrosse coach Charlize Smith said. “She has been a big key to our success this season and her 100 goals is a fantastic milestone for our team to celebrate. She’s a captain as well and does a great job of setting a prime example for the younger athletes in our program”
