CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — The upcoming demolition of a building that was deemed unsafe in Philipsburg will affect traffic for a period of time.

According to the Hope Fire Company , a building behind the fire station is set to be demolished starting the first week of April. The building, 408 North Front Street, was deemed unsafe for use and is set to be torn down for a future fire station.

Community support continues after lumberyard fire

Due to the project, the alley adjacent to the fire station (Firehouse Lane) will be closed and there will be a partial closure of a lane for North Front Street.

The demolition is the first physical step of the planned construction of a new station and it is expected to last approximately 2 – 3 weeks. The Hope Fire Company added that it could take longer.

Our plan is to complete the demolition, reclaim and finish the ground as a large parking area, and use this area for fundraising and community events until a new station can be completed.

Hope Fire Company said in a Facebook post

The construction of the station is anticipated to be a 3- 5-year plan with funds still pending. The fire company added that a new building would include a greater door height, a larger apparatus room, offices, a kitchen, a lounge and storage space.

Once that is completed the current station will be removed and a large parking area will be established in its place.
