Eagles Urged To Pursue Star Pass Rusher In Free Agency

The Philadelphia Eagles signed edge rusher Bryce Huff in free agency, which was widely viewed as a strong move. However, they also lost some pieces along their defensive front.

After acquiring Huff, the Eagles traded veteran pass rusher Haason Reddick, and going from Reddick to Huff can arguably be viewed as a downgrade. They also lost long-time defensive lineman Fletcher Cox to retirement.

So, while the pickup of Huff may end up paying off, it seems relatively safe to say that Philadelphia could use some depth in its front seven.

That’s why Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox feels that the team should sign free-agent defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah.

Ogbah was released by the Miami Dolphins back in February and remains on the open market. He is coming off of a 2023 campaign in which he posted modest production, logging 20 tackles, 5.5 sacks, an interception and a forced fumble in 15 games.

The 30-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Oklahoma State, was originally selected by the Cleveland Browns in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

He spent the first three years of his career with the Browns and tallied decent results, with his best season coming during his rookie campaign when he registered 53 tackles and 5.5 sacks.

Cleveland traded Ogbah to the Kansas City Chiefs in April 2019, and he went on to spend one season with the Chiefs, helping them win a Super Bowl.

Ogbah proceeded to move on to the Dolphins in 2020, where he truly broke out. In his debut campaign in Miami, Ogbah racked up 42 tackles, nine sacks, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. He recorded similar numbers in 2021, rattling off 41 tackles and nine sacks.

Injuries then limited the Nigerian native to just nine games in 2022.

Ogbah may not be the same pass rusher he once was, but he could still bring some much-needed depth to an Eagles defense that finished 26th in the NFL last season.
