Can We Finally Talk About Joel Embiid Being The Problem In Philadelphia?

I tried telling you guys, but no one listened. The obvious answer is right in front of you, but no one seems to want to accept it. I get it. It’s hard when you have the face of the franchise, the idea of moving on from him for the betterment of the team. But it’s so obvious now. Joel Embiid is the number one problem for the Philadelphia 76ers, and the sooner fans and the front office realize it, the sooner anyone is actually going to take this team seriously.

This isn’t even clickbait to try and get views, which I am sure some folks are going to try and spin this as. I am not joking I could probably name four big men I would rather have than Joel Embiid. Without a doubt, it’s Nikola Jokic, who is MILES better. I would rather have Bam Adebayo (shoutout Matt Hanifan). Give me Domantas Sabonis as well. Lastly, I would rather have Victor Wembanyama over Embiid simply because of his potential. You could also make arguments for Chet Holmgren as well potentially. I don’t get this Embiid love.

How can you go to bat for someone who is never available? It rang true two years ago and it still does, the fact that his career high in games played in a season is 68. That’s embarrassing. The franchise player should not be missing that much time. He has four seasons under 60 games played (51 twice, 31 in 16-17′ and 39 this season). He’s soft. I’m talking Charmin ultra soft. You can’t rely on someone who is made of glass, that methodology will never work out, just ask the Lakers with Anthony Davis.

But Garrett, Joel Embiid is an all-time scorer for the position and a defensive wizard how can you hate on him? The best ability is availability. But it isn’t even that. I am going to drop some stats below that we need to talk about.

Give me a break. 23.1% from the field when you are a big? 7 feet tall? You mean to tell me that Joel Embiid, your guy, the face of the franchise, the “best Center in the league” posts these numbers in the fourth quarter? This man shrivels under the pressure. Pressure makes diamonds, and this man is not even lab-made, he is a knockoff diamond.

Joel Embiid is not a winner. This isn’t even much of a debate at this point. He is .533% in the postseason without Ben Simmons on the roster, who was the first scapegoat in this whole saga. The fact that the Indiana Pacers (no disrespect) have made an Eastern Conference Finals before Embiid should be enough to fire up any 76ers fan. They have a chance to do it this year as well, as they go up against the number two-seeded New York Knicks in the next round. The two previous seasons before this, he averaged 23.6 and 23.7 points per game respectively. But he is a great scorer? All-time great? Untouchable?

I genuinely hope that Philadelphia 76ers fans will wake up. One day it will dawn on them that Joel Embiid is the problem with this team, and the sooner they move off of him and build around Tyrese Maxey, the better off they will be. Maybe anyone will actually take this team seriously. Until that happens, I don’t know how any knowledgeable NBA fan can believe this team is a real contender. But hey, if you are ok year after year with early exits in the playoffs, be my guest.
