The shooting left neighbors in the area like Lisa Eggleston worried.
“I’m kind of scared because you don’t know where a bullet is coming from, what direction it is coming from,” Eggleston said. “A lot of kids don’t make it back to school after holidays and stuff. You know, stray bullets and it’s bad. It’s really bad.”
Eggleston said shootings are becoming a regular occurrence in recent months and believes gun violence involving children could be the reason for a spike in crime.
“They need to be in by 8 o’clock, not eleven. Eleven o’clock is when the street lights come on, you should be in the house,” Eggleston said.
Eggleston said increased police patrol can help reduce these occurrences, but stresses community members to do their part as well.
“People need to open their mouths and speak up and talk and tell what’s going on in the neighborhood,” Eggleston said. “If I see anything, I’m telling it. Straight up.”
The Petersburg Bureau of Police continues to investigate the incident. Anyone with information is asked to call Petersburg Police at 804-732-4222 .
