PESHTIGO — Like a carousel stuck on overdrive, the Peshtigo High School softball team left Menominee spinning in a 16-4, five-inning thumping of the Maroons on Tuesday.

Menominee stunned the Lady Bulldogs in the top first inning after a two-RBI single by Savannah Houle helped the Maroons jump out to a 3-0 lead.

Peshtigo proceeded to flip Tuesday’s game on its head in its half of the frame, as the Lady Bulldogs bashed out 10 base hits and worked three walks amidst an offensive onslaught.

In all, 15 batters came to plate for Peshtigo in the bottom of the first, with back-to-back ribbies by Lainie Weddel and Cameron Finger lifting the Lady Bulldogs ahead 4-3.

Nevaeh Russell, Gracie Bickel, Sam LaCoursiere and Taylor Wortner all slapped RBI-singles to increase Peshtigo’s lead to six, while Weddel added her second RBI-base knock of the inning before coming around to score on a passed ball to push Peshtigo out to an 11-3 edge.

Peshtigo piled on five more runs in the bottom of the second before Mady Barker scored on an RBI from Olson.

Menominee had opportunities to continue chipping away at its deficit but were unable to capitalize either time.

The fourth inning saw Ella Barker reach base on a fielder’s choice but Peshtigo was able to turn a double play on her and Elena Murphy to get out of the jam.

Down to its final strike in the top of the second, Menominee got a clutch triple from Barker but was once again unable to score after Olson grounded out to first base to end the game.

Mady Barker was the losing pitcher on Tuesday after allowing 14 hits, 16 runs (all earned) and seven walks in two innings of work. She went 3-3 at the dish with two runs scored, a stolen base and an RBI.

Kadyn Olsen collected two hits in three trips to the dish. Jada Schuette worked a walk in her only plate appearance, while Houle was 1-2 with two RBIs.

Russell picked up the win after tossing four innings of five-hit ball, striking out two and walking one while allowing four earned runs in the process.

LaCoursiere and Weddell both had three-hit outings for the Lady Bulldogs. Russell, Wortner, Bickel and Neela Sotka all had two hits apiece.
