'Help is on the way' for sweltering Edmond pool
EDMOND − "Help is on the way" for competitive swimmers in and visiting Edmond after the city pledged to work with the school district and YMCA of Greater OKC to upgrade air conditioning at Edmond Public Schools Aquatic Center. It will boost tourism spending and sales tax collections from swimmers, family and fans who come by the hundreds and spend thousands of dollar on rooms and in restaurants and stores. Edmond eyes Covell-Coltrane junction upgrade where Walmart is planned
EDMOND — City engineers are weighing whether to propose upgrades to the cramped Covell-Coltrane crossroads, where a contentious Walmart Neighborhood Market is headed , as Edmond's biggest street project the next five years. Jim Tapp's Coltrane Land Development LLC gained approval of a preliminary site plan for Covell Creek Corner, which does not mention Walmart, from the Edmond Planning Commission in April. It is planned for the northwest corner. Approval came after Oklahoma County District Judge Anthony L. Bonner found in favor of Coltrane Land Development, part of The Tapp Cos., and against the city of Edmond the month before in a lawsuit over Tapp's plans. It was the second legal fight over development of the property since 2015. The ruling came just as city staff were starting to determine the best use of revenue from a r enewed 10-year, half-cent capital improvement sales tax now earmarked for street and road improvements. The Edmond City Council will ultimately make the call after taking recommendations from the city Capital Improvement Projects Advisory Board. Tapp's plan for the Walmart grocery store includes two entrances, one off each road. Plus, both roads will be widened with turn lanes for access to the property,
