PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — Are you an aspiring soccer player in Central Illinois? The Peoria City soccer team and the Central Illinois Soccer Academy have just announced a new program to help young players in the area strengthen their skills on the field.

Players entering junior high all the way to college students can participate in the program. Although the maximum age limit is 23 years old, Assistant Coach Ryan Woodside said the team would be willing to stretch that depending on the player’s circumstances.

This program is working to expose players to a higher level of playing while focusing on developing their current skill set so they can make those game-changing decisions even faster than before. Hopefully, by seeing this higher level of playing, the program aims to help players see the game from a whole new perspective. Furthermore, during the training program, players will be able to learn more technical skills.

This is the first year of the U23 Training Program, but the assistant coach hopes it will provide an important opportunity for aspiring players to network, build relationships, and develop as stronger players. For the future, Woodside said he wants to see players come back.

“I would like to see each individual […] grow as much as they possibly can.” He continued, “I would like to see as many players as possible coming back next year and coming back in future years as part of the Peoria City team.”

The group will train two to three times a week between May 1 to July 15. One of the training sessions per week will coincide with the Peoria City Soccer team; giving the players a chance to see what the Peoria City Soccer team has to offer. Over the course of the program, the training group will have the opportunity to play six scrimmage matches. Four will be against the Peoria City soccer team, while the other two will be against outside opponents. Additional scrimmage matches may be scheduled in the future.
